As we are in the midst of our busiest season for home care in South Florida, a cautionary trend is emerging. Many seniors apparently are coming down to Florida for the winter but do not have any local doctors. This includes people with relatively serious conditions, whether cardiac/heart or diabetes and so forth

Senior care quality standards and ethics seem like something that should go hand-in-hand.  It is important to understand the quality standards for senior home care agencies and also for any senior care company you may work with as a caregiver or senior. Seattle based A Place for Mom sells leads to assisted living communities and senior home care agencies by hiring 100% commission Advisors who are paid when the senior is placed in a company that has agreed to pay A Place for Mom a placement fee.  However, employees and a court agreed the company was not paying their own employees as they should.  A Place for Mom settled a federal class-action lawsuit for $1.7 million involving 222 employees in April, 2010.  The suit was filed in 2008 alleging labor violations and uncompensated overtime and delayed commission payments along with unreimbursed job-related expenses

Senior Caregiver Job Application

Senior caregivers may work part-time or full-time and enjoy flexibility with weekday or weekend schedules.  This is because some seniors require care every day of the week.  Professional senior care companies will also hire back-up caregivers in order to be able to effectively staff new clients as many times they will need care on short notice.  Seniors who decide to leave the hospital and go onto hospice care services will often need a caregiving service to begin right away.  In addition, seniors who suddenly find out they are not approved for more days of Medicare-reimbursed care in a nursing home will opt to go home and privately pay for a senior home care agency to provide professional care services.

I speak with a lot of concerned, caring, loving and able adult children of ailing elderly parents. In the wish and hope of being respectful and allowing an impaired love one to remain independent, families often either deny (a natural defense mechanism) or avoid an objective and realistic appraisal of their loved one’s capacity or ability to make a sound decision
